Portable Loos
How does a loo hire service work?
Loo hire services provide self-contained, temporary sanitation solutions for locations without permanent facilities (like construction sites or events). The process typicall involves delivery of the units, regular servicing and then a final collection of the unit
At Ace Loos, our services are provided weekly, but we can adjust to a fortnightly schedule upon request. Each loo unit is assigned to a specific service round, which may change due to operational needs, including bank holidays. We ensure transparency by placing a PSE Service sticker inside the unit, where our driver records the visit's date, time and their signature for each service.
Can the loos service schedule be amended during the hire?
Yes, the service schedule can be adjusted during the hire period. However, please be aware that the hire charge may change based on the new schedule, and any adjustments will be communicated to you beforehand.
What happens if a pump-out service cannot be completed?
If a pump-out service cannot be completed due to circumstances beyond the hirer's control, where the driver is unable to access the toilet at no fault of his own (e.g. road closed, site locked, delivery on site, access blocked by unknown cars) the weekly charges still apply.
If a service is not completed due to a breakdown (at no fault of the hirer) a credit will be approved for the cost of the service only. All our charges are based on units adhering to the following requirements:
Position of each unit is no further than 60ft (20meters) from the road/driveway or approved vehicle access access is accessible for a 7.5 tonne vehicle
No access times or restriction apply
Ace Loos is proud that we have a variety of vehicles, should a site require a Land Rover, longer piping or set service times, please call our office on 01794 368611 for an individual quote.
What is included in the price of the toilet hire?
The price is for the weekly hire of the toilet. We will set up the toilets on site. Weekly servicing and consumables are included within the hire contract.
How many toilets do I need?
The Health and Safety Executive requires 1 toilet per 5 people during a 40-hour working week, please see our welfare calculator to calculate the requirements for your building site.
Do you clean the toilet on site?
Yes, we provide a weekly service within the hire price.
Can the loos be positioned anywhere?
No, they need to be placed on flat firm ground in an accessible location. Remember our drivers are delivering in large vehicles to the site so may require a larger area for manoeuvring. We will do our best to position them exactly where you would like but we will need access to service.
Can the unit be used for storage on-site?
No, the toilet must be kept clear so that access to servicing can be at all times.
The chemical toilet I’ve hired is not flushing. How do I fix this?
Try adding a bucket of water to the toilet first, and pump it through a few times to get it working. If this doesn’t work, please call our office for repair
Are the toilets suitable for disposing of sanitary products or paper towels?
No, this will cause a blockage in the toilet, they must be disposed of separately.
When do you service the toilets?
We service the toilets once per week, the service is not on a set day but we try our best to get round and the same time each week.
Can I move the toilet once it’s on site?
If the toilet needs moving on site, you must consult a member of our team first to guarantee access for servicing is still in place
Roll on Roll off Containers
What space is required for a Roll on Roll off container?
A Roll On Roll Off (RORO) container requires a stable, flat area with enough clearance for the vehicle to manoeuvre and place the container. Space wise, it requires at least 40 foot in length to drop the container off and approximately 10 foot in width.
Can anyone hire a Roll on Roll off container?
Yes, almost anyone can hire a Roll on Roll off (RORO) container, including both commercial/trade businesses and domestic customers. While they are mainly used for large construction and commercial projects, they are also available for any situation that requires handling large volumes of waste where a traditional skip may be too small or unsuitable.
Can the Roll on Roll off containers be placed on the road?
You can place a Roll On Roll Off (RoRo) container on the public street. However, a permit needs to be obtained from the council, which Ace Liftaway apply for on your behalf and these are for a week at a time. You will have to provide lights and cones for the container, but we can supply for you to keep at a chargeable rate.
Please note that we must give the council 4 clear working days for the skip licence, so please give sufficient time when ordering your skip or RoRo.
What is a Roll on Roll off container?
A Roll on Roll off (RoRo) container is a large waste or recycling container designed for easy loading and unloading using a specialised RoRo truck. It “rolls on” and “rolls off” the back of the lorry, making it ideal for handling heavy, bulky or high-volume waste materials.
What is the difference between a Roll on Roll off container and a skip?
The main difference between a Roll on Roll off (RoRo) and a skip is capacity. RoRo containers are much larger than standard skips and are designed for industrial-scale waste removal, whereas skips are suited for smaller domestic or commercial projects.

When can I expect delivery of my skip?

Do I need to be home for the skip delivery?
No, In most cases we can deliver your skip when no one is home, payment is made before the skip is delivered and therefore we can make delivery at any time for you. If your skip is being placed on the public highway you must be available to take delivery of the skip.
Can I place a skip on the road?

Aggregates
What are the different types of aggregates?
Aggregates are essential construction materials, and the main types include:
Soils & Infill Aggregates: Natural sand, gravel and topsoil for levelling, landscaping and site infill.
Recycled Aggregates: Crushed construction and demolition waste, ideal for sustainable sub-base, fill and non-structural projects.
Recycled Washed Aggregates: Cleaned recycled materials, perfect for drainage layers, driveways and sub-base applications.
Limestone Aggregates: Quarried limestone used in concrete, asphalt, road construction and other durable building projects.
Primary Aggregates: Natural sand, gravel, and crushed rock sourced from quarries for structural concrete, foundations and heavy-duty construction.
Choosing the right type of aggregate ensures stronger, durable and eco-friendly construction or landscaping results.
What are primary aggregates?
Primary aggregates are naturally occurring materials, such as crushed rock, sand and gravel, extracted from riverbeds, the ocean floor and other natural environments. These raw materials are used in construction and landscaping projects without prior recycling or processing.
What are aggregates?
Aggregates are granular materials like crushed stone, sand and gravel, that are used as a foundational component in construction for materials like concrete and asphalt.
What properties make a good aggregate?
Good aggregates should have the following properties:
Hardness and toughness, to resist wear and impact.
Cleanliness: free from clay, silt, or organic matter.
Proper grading: a good distribution of particle sizes for compactness.
Low water absorption (typically less than 2%)
Durability: resistance to weathering and chemical attack.
